We recommend using the latest version of Garmin Basecamp for Mac or PC, or MapSource for PC (older version).
Download BaseCamp from the Garmin website at: http://www.garmin.com/us/products/onthetrail/basecamp.
Alternatively, if you just want to view the route and not edit it, you can open the GPX file at www.gpsvisualizer.com. This website allows you to display the GPS data in the format of Google Maps.
Upload the GPX File to your Garmin Device Directly (The new TomTom Rider models also accept GPX files)
Plug the Garmin device into your computer using a USB cable (one should have come with your GPS device). A folder labeled Garmin will appear on your desktop right away, if not you may need to use the search function to find it. Double click on the Garmin folder to open its contents and drag your GPX file in to the sub folder labeled GPX. After you’re done, eject the device. When the device is powered on, it will ask you whether you want to import the new routes. Check the routes you’d like to import and press the import button. Please note that some Garmin units are not able to import routes. If you have questions about your device, you should contact Garmin directly.
Store the GPX File on a SD Card
Connect the SD card to your computer. Drag the GPX file into the SD card folder that appears on your desktop once you plug it in. Now you can load the SD card on to your Garmin GPS unit or TomTom Rider.
